FIRST NATIONS CELEBRATIONS

We are honoured to live, work, and play on the traditional ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Matsqui, and Sumas First Nations. As part of the NHL’s Hockey Is For Everyone initiative, we are proud to amplify voices from local First Nations communities in our commitment to drive positive social change and foster inclusion.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30, was commemorated across two preseason games in which the Canucks welcomed local First Nations Chiefs and council members to lead the land acknowledgment at Rogers Arena (September 24) and Abbotsford Centre (September 25).

Drummers and Powwow dancers performed in Vancouver, while members from the Sumas and Matsqui First Nations sang a traditional welcome song in Abbotsford, sharing and celebrating local First Nations culture with Canucks fans across the Lower Mainland.

Uplifting the Next Generation

The Canucks partnered with Musqueam artists Nova Wolf and Chase Gray to create the team’s 2024 orange shirt design, which incorporates symbolic elements from Indigenous culture to pay tribute to the artists’ heritage and uplift the next generation of youth. All proceeds from sales of the t-shirts were donated to the Orange Shirt Society. Contributions can also be made by donating online.
