Pride Night

ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM

Pride is an important part of Hockey Is For Everyone, a joint NHL and NHLPA initiative celebrating diversity and inclusion in hockey. Hockey Is For Everyone uses the game of hockey and the Leagues’ global influence to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities. We have a vibrant and thriving 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Vancouver, and we strive for everyone to feel welcome, safe and seen by Canucks Sports & Entertainment. We are committed to making a valuable impact by working with community organizations to amplify, educate, celebrate and inspire our fans.

UNIQUE APPROACH TO AN ICONIC BRAND

Each year, the Canucks collaborate with an artist from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to create a unique Pride logo that reflects inclusion, love, and connection. For this year’s Pride Night, we partnered with local artist Brent Haddow. Brent’s exciting design, using the classical printmaking technique of linocut, evokes many different sensibilities; curved lines etched into ice, swirling liquid water, contrasts of stained glass and a bounty of unique, colourful hearts. Of the swooping linework, Brent says: “The image I was drawing from was skating on a lake of ice. When one skates on ice they carve their own lines. There is an exciting freedom to being able to skate in whatever direction you want.” On the many unique hearts, Brent explains: “We need to remember that we can love who we want to love.”

THE ARTIST

Brent Haddow, from Richmond, BC, is an illustrator, printmaker, and educator. Running linocut workshops across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, Brent celebrates the classical medium and handmade spirit of printmaking.

Brent describes his work as a celebration of movement, colour and play. Participating actively in Vancouver’s art community as an exhibitor and instructor, Brent seeks to bring people into artistic practice, sharing the joys of communication through creating.
